Episode 06: David Mead

David Mead - photo by Heidi RossFrom "Indi" to "Indie"

Since being signed to RCA records in 1998, David Mead has been continuously re-inventing his approach to writing, recording, releasing and promoting pop music.

After rejecting the trappings of celebrity, he became a fearless marketer, leveraging his loyal fan base and cultivating music relationships to jump start new and ambitious songwriting and recording projects.

Sung in a voice that begs to be bathed in superlatives, songs from the David Mead catalog belong in every serious pop collection.

(2019)

David Mead David Mead Bedtime Story
Mead's 2019 album opens engagingly, with a burst of bell-tone vocalizations and a storyteller pitching a premise that promises to be worth our while.
Mine and Yours by David Mead Mine and Yours

(2001)

David Mead Adam Schlesinger Mine and Yours
Propelled by a resonant, backbeat snare and alternating, short, legato bass phrases, this superbly melodic song has amazing staying power and a well-produced chorus.  And check out those lyrics!
Tangerine by David Mead Tangerine

(2005)

David Mead Brad Jones Fighting For Your Life
A playful dance of chord suspension gives way to a half-time verse and a double-time chorus.  "Come on, baby, try to love the things you never liked."  So fun.
Mine and Yours by David Mead Mine and Yours

(2001)

David Mead Adam Schlesinger Girl On the Roof
Percussive, bouncy and inescapably infectious.
Indiana by David Mead Indiana

(2004)

David Mead David Henry Indiana
"I'm in the middle of nowhere / Population of one."  From its hooky intro to the intimate tale of its verse, and through its easily singable chorus, Indiana puts you in the passenger seat, on tour with a road-weary relationship.
Almost & Always by David Mead Almost & Always

(2008)

Bill DeMain, David Mead Brad Jones Love Don't Leave Me Now
"Ice is on the river in our sleepy autumn town." / "Aurora Borealis in the twinkling of your eye."  Poetic prose over hypnotic picking, leading into layers of angelic vocals supporting the bridge.
Dudes by David Mead Dudes

Happy Birthday, Marty Ryan
A rowdy celebration of manhood and growing older, punctuated by clanging guitars and a mischievously wild vocal.
