Episode 20: Wesley Stace (John Wesley Harding)

Wesley Stace -- Photo by Ebet Roberts

For his first several albums, folk/pop singer-songwriter Wesley Stace recorded under the pseudonym John Wesley Harding.  He tweaked his stage persona further by cheekily proclaiming in song that he was the Bastard Son of Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, and a nephew of Leonard Cohen.  But what is Stace/Harding's authentic musical lineage?  Is he folk royalty or just a Good Liar?  And how does Frank Capra fit the Wesley Stace identikit?  In this interview, we set out to suss out the person he is.

My original pitch to Wes was an in-depth discussion about his 1991 studio album, "The Name Above the Title."  Ultimately we covered the first decade of his career.
